All About Psilocybe Natalensis
Introduction to Psilocybe Natalensis
Have you ever heard of Psilocybe Natalensis? This unique mushroom, native to certain parts of the world, has a rich history and a plethora of uses. Let’s embark on a journey to understand this fascinating fungus better.
Psilocybe Natalensis: Native Origins
Psilocybe Natalensis is a species of psychedelic mushroom that is native to the grasslands of South Africa, particularly in the KwaZulu-Natal province. The name “Natalensis” is derived from “Natal,” referring to its primary region of discovery in KwaZulu-Natal. These mushrooms typically grow in well-manured grounds and are often found after seasonal rains. The region’s specific climate and soil conditions provide an ideal environment for the growth of this particular psilocybin-containing mushroom. Over time, due to its psychoactive properties, it has garnered interest from enthusiasts and researchers alike.
What is Psilocybe Natalensis?
Psilocybe Natalensis is a type of psychedelic mushroom. Like its more famous cousin, Psilocybe Cubensis, it contains the psychoactive compounds psilocybin and psilocin. But what sets it apart?
Historical Context and Significance
For centuries, indigenous communities have revered these mushrooms for their spiritual and medicinal properties. They’ve been a bridge to the divine, a tool for introspection, and a means of healing.
The Magic Behind the Mushroom
The compounds in Psilocybe Natalensis interact with our brain in mysterious ways, leading to profound experiences. But how exactly does it work? And why is it so sought after?
Why Grow Psilocybe Natalensis at Home?
Growing mushrooms at home can be a rewarding experience. But why choose Psilocybe Natalensis? Well, if you have already grown p. cubensis, P. Nats are a great way to dip your toes into the exotic psychedelic mushroom species.
Benefits of Home Cultivation
Imagine having a steady supply of fresh, organic mushrooms right at your fingertips. The satisfaction of watching them grow, the assurance of their purity, and the joy of harvesting – it’s unparalleled.=]
Getting Started: Essential Supplies
Ready to start your mushroom cultivation journey? Here’s what you’ll need.
- Spore/Culture Syringe
- Spawn bag (sterile grain substrate) with injection port
- Colonizing/fruiting tub
- Bulk Substrate
- Alcohol wipes
The Growth Process: Step-by-Step
From spore to harvest, here’s how to grow Psilocybe Natalensis.
Inoculation: Using sterile procedures, clean your workspace and prepare all materials. Wipe the injection port and inoculate 3-7cc of culture solution in to the grain bag.
Colonization: Put the inoculated substrate in to a warm, dry area for colonization. Aim for temperatures in the range of 78 -83F. During this time the mycelium will colonize the bag and this should take anywhere from 10-23 days depending on a few factors.
Birthing to Bulk Substrate: As soon as your grain bag is fully colonized it is time to mix the colonized grain with a bulk substrate. Again, clean your area and use aseptic techniques, wipe all materials down with alcohol wipes. Put a liner in the bottom of your grow chamber (black plastic). Lay one layer (1in deep) of substrate, then spread out a layer of colonized grain. Continue this process for at least one more layer. Finish the tub by putting a .25in layer of substrate on top, covering all of the colonized grain. Put your tub back in to the “colonization” area with temps similar to previous.
Fruiting: After 5-7 days you should have mycelium reaching through the top “pseudo casing” layer of substrate. At this point it is time to put the container in to “fruiting conditions”. In order to induce fruiting, drop the temperatures by 5-7 degrees and introduce fresh air 3-5x per day. This can be achieved by removing the lid from your growing chamber and fanning the substrate. After a couple of days you will notice small white dots appearing on the substrate. These are primordial dots and are the beginning of baby mushrooms. Make sure that there is enough humidity in the chamber. You can do a visual check by making sure there is condensation on the inside of the tub. If the moisture has evaporated, then its likely that you are giving too much fresh air. Using a water mister, mist the sides of the tub to ensure high levels of humidity.
Harvesting: After a couple of days your small pins should grow in to full mushrooms. Once the veils begin to separate from the cap, it is time to harvest. To harvest, pinch the base of the mushroom, push down and twist. Alternatively, you can use a sharp knife. Dry using a dehydrator or fan.
Conclusion: The Magic of Home Cultivation
Growing Psilocybe Natalensis at home is more than just a hobby; it’s a journey. A journey of discovery, patience, and profound experiences. Whether you’re seeking spiritual enlightenment, therapeutic benefits, or simply the joy of cultivation, this guide has equipped you with the knowledge to embark on this magical adventure.
